The driver and a smartphone: working without paper and without an install

Say "dispatch system" and drivers often picture an expensive unit bolted into the car and a day of training. In reality all it takes today is the phone already in their pocket — and an application they add to the home screen in a few seconds.
No app-store install
A modern dispatch system runs in the browser. The driver adds the page to their home screen once and it looks and behaves like an ordinary application — but nothing is installed from a store and nothing has to be updated by hand. On an older phone it works the same as on a new one.
What the driver's day looks like
- A new ride arrives as a notification. The driver accepts it with
one tap and the dispatcher immediately sees it has been taken.
- Large buttons, a simple sequence. Picked up → completed. No
complicated screens behind the wheel.
- The address opens in the navigation app. Tapping the pickup
address launches the map the driver normally uses.
- Location sharing can be switched off. When the driver does not
want to share their position — a break, the end of a shift — one toggle does it.
What it solves in practice
Paper slips with bookings get lost and nobody knows whether the driver took the job. When rides live on the driver's phone and get confirmed, the dispatcher has a real-time picture: who is carrying whom and who is free. The "did you take it?" phone calls disappear and the day gets calmer.
What happens when the signal drops
A sensible dispatch system expects that a car sometimes has no coverage. The application catches up by itself once the connection returns and the driver does not lose a ride in progress. That is not a reason to go back to paper.
For drivers the decisive thing is that it is simple and that it works on the phone they already have. When nothing needs installing and the controls are obvious at a glance, they take to the new way of working quickly — and willingly.
